Synthetic Gas Bench (SGB)

LAT/AUTh operates a custom Synthetic Gas Bench (SGB) developed by the lab's staff, built for steady state and semi-transient tests. The unit is able to accommodate samples of all aftertreatment devices ranging from catalysts (DOC, LNT, SCR, TWC) to filters (DPF, SCRF, GPF, FWC). Fully controlled conditions in terms of temperature, space velocity and gas composition can be achieved. The system can be also supplied with real exhaust gas from an engine.

In 2021, a second industrial grade SGB by ILS Germany was installed at LAT/AUTh. It is a state-of-the-art, fully automated unit with extended capabilities, able to perform tests over simulated transient protocols or driving cycles.
